2 Unique Ideas For Old Residential Doors

If you will be replacing some of your residential doors, you might be interested in thinking of a few things to do with the old ones. With the following ideas in mind, you should have no trouble creating some very unique pieces for your home.

Headboard

You will first need to make sure that you are sanding the door and painting or staining it to your liking. Once the door has dried, you can then move it to the head of your bed. Simply move your mattress and box spring away from the wall and place the doors behind it. You can use a couple of doors and stand them upright to create a tall headboard. Then again, you can use only one door and lay it sideways so that it is not as tall. What you will do will depend on your preference and the number of doors that you have available. Just make sure that you are using long contracting screws to secure the door to the wall. It is very important to also screw the door into the wall studs in order to ensure that it will stay in place and not fall on you while you are in bed. Once the door is secured onto the wall, you can push your bed back up to the wall so that it is against your new creative headboard.

Chalkboard

You will need to clean and then dry your door before starting. Once it is dry, you can then apply a coat of chalkboard paint. If the paint appears to be thinned out in spots after it has dried, feel free to add another coat. You can then screw the door into any wall of your home where you would like to have a unique chalkboard. Turn it sideways and hang it along a bare wall in your kitchen for jotting down grocery lists or for recipes that you will be using in the near future. You could even set it up in your child's bedroom for endless hours of fun.

With the two previously mentioned ideas in mind, you should have no problem deciding what to do with your old residential doors. Those ideas might even spark your imagination to come up with another idea to add along with those. You might just find yourself looking to pick up some old doors from yard sales just so you can make use of more project ideas.
